There is a moment that happens on every Secrets of Northern Spain journey.

It usually takes place just before dinner.

The streets are quieter.

The day-trippers have gone home.

The shopkeepers are closing their doors.

And Northern Spain starts to belong to the locals again.

This photograph was taken in the heart of Vitoria-Gasteiz, my hometown and the capital of the Basque Country.

Most visitors to Spain have never heard of it.

That's precisely why I love bringing people here.

There are no crowds.

No souvenir shops.

No long queues.

Just beautiful streets, centuries of history, and the feeling that you've stumbled upon somewhere genuinely authentic.

When I was growing up, these streets were simply part of everyday life. I never imagined that one day I would be introducing travellers from Australia, the United States and beyond to the place I call home.

Today, one of my greatest joys is watching guests fall in love with places they never expected to visit.

Not because they're famous.

But because they're real.

A family-run bakery preparing for the next morning.

A local bar serving pintxos exactly as it has for generations.

Neighbours stopping for a chat on their way home.

These are the moments people remember long after they've returned home.

Perhaps that's the true luxury of travel.

Not seeing more.

But seeing deeper.

And that's the Northern Spain I love sharing.
